Carol Taylor

I was midway through a master’s degree program in marine biology at California State University, Long Beach, when I realized that I should have been an English major. I took a year off to figure out what to do, and before I knew it I had been a typesetter and proofreader for an independent publishing company, a marketing support manager for a travel consolidator, an office manager and occasional science writer for an international nonprofit organization, and a bookseller. I began freelance copyediting as a sideline in 2009 and, with the launch of Happy Dog Editing in 2017, have finally made it a full-time career. I completed the University of California, San Diego certificate program in copyediting (with straight A’s!) in 2017.

I’m a word nerd, grammar geek, dog mom, and newly obsessed kayaker. I love being a copyeditor. I love the craft of tinkering with words and polishing sentences, helping writers discover the best way to get their message across.
